Our Halloween festivities for the last two years have been over the top fun because the spooky holiday has fallen during a weekend! Even though Halloween officially fell on a Sunday this year, we had the whole weekend to spend with our friends & collect CANDY! Mmmm Mmmm!

Saturday afternoon we tried something new, Mike & I took the girls trick-or-treating on our own Venice Ave. It was fun but way too crowded. We spent an hour there with our best friends before coming back to our house and to order pizzas. Once it got dark we had another "1st" planned for the girls. Mike & I wanted to take them to a Haunted House in our neighborhood. We were a worried that they would be too scared but for the most part they had fun! Little Mikayla (3) -who is not afraid of anything- lead our group through- while Madelyn (7) buried her face under my arm when she got scared. Mike thought the whole thing was hilarious his face hurt from laughing so hard.
On Halloween, the girls were excited to put their costumes on again. This time we were meeting our best friends in Siesta Key Village. We went trick-or-treating here last year and loved it. It's during the day between 3-6, the sidewalks are wide & uncrowded and the candy is plentiful. Most of the restaurants & shops that participate sit right out on the sidewalks, it's safe & so convenient! (nothing like the craziness on Venice Ave. which we won't do again.) We covered the whole village in an hour and the girls' buckets were full with yummy treats! They also scored some beads, silly bands and temporary tattoos! The girls had a great time!

Maddy & Mikayla had their picture taken for the Siesta Key newspaper called The Observer. Not sure if it's a weekly or daily publication but I need to find out so I can get a few copies!

After the kids worked up an appetite, we took them to Micky D's for Happy Meals!
After dinner we cruised over to our friend's Mike & Sarah's house. Before the sun set we were on the streets looking for more treats. The kids had a blast filling their buckets... again. Mike & I had a great time strolling with our friends. Oh! and imagine our surprise when we discovered a neighbor with a keg on his driveway! No candy for the kids, just beer for the adults! Very cool!
Time ALWAYS flies when we're having fun, 8:30 came fast and we had to go... but I think it's safe to say we made the most out of Halloween weekend! We spent time with our friends, we carved our pumpkins, went to a haunted house and collected about 20 lbs of candy that will easily last the girls till next Halloween! Now we can start thinking about the next holidays... Thanksgiving & Christmas!
